Varieties of Plants Rights

The protection afforded to new and different varieties of plant species whose individuals have homogeneous and stable characteristics, confers exclusive rights to breeders and promotes the creation of them. The applicable regulation is the Federal Plant Variety Law and the Convention of the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV); the government agency that grants the corresponding protection is the National Service of Seed Inspection and Certification (SNICS), decentralized body of the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food.
